What is a Comprehensive Eye Examination?

A comprehensive eye test is more than just reading letters on a chart. It evaluates all aspects of vision and eye health, including:

  1. Visual Acuity and Refraction
Determines how well you see at near and far distances. Using tools like the Snellen chart, autorefractors, and phoropters, optometrists measure myopia (short-sightedness), hyperopia (long-sightedness), and astigmatism to provide precise prescriptive lenses.
  2. Binocular Vision and Eye Coordination
Assesses how both eyes work together, including depth perception and eye alignment. Tests include cover test, near point of convergence, and fusional vergence. Detecting misalignment early can prevent double vision, eye strain, or reading difficulties.
  3. Eye Health Screening
Evaluates internal and external eye structures for early detection of eye disease, such as:
Glaucoma – measured using tonometry to detect high intraocular pressure that can damage the optic nerve
Cataracts – assessed via slit-lamp biomicroscopy to check lens clouding
Retinal disorders – including diabetic retinopathy and age-related macular degeneration (AMD), using fundus photography and OCT scans
Corneal abnormalities – including keratoconus, evaluated with corneal topography
  4. Ocular Surface and Tear Film Assessment
Checks for dry eyes or ocular surface disorders with tear break-up time (TBUT) and slit-lamp examination, crucial for contact lens wearers or digital screen users.
  5. Myopia Control Assessment (for Children and Teens)
Includes axial length measurement, binocular vision assessment, and progressive myopia risk evaluation. Helps determine if interventions like myopia control glasses, contact lenses, Ortho-K lenses, or atropine drops are suitable.

Our exams are tailored by age

Children (4–16 years) – Junior Care Myopia ($60) and Pro Suite Myopia ($90) options include autorefraction, slit-lamp biomicroscopy, axial length measurement, and binocular assessment

Adults (17+) – Comprehensive Eye Examination ($120) includes non-contact tonometry, fundus photography, glaucoma and retinal screening. Optional add-on advanced tests like OCT and visual field tests are available upon request or by recommendation after completing the tests.

What to Expect During Your Visit
